Grown at 1,800 meters in the Othaya region of Nyeri County, Mahiga is a vibrant and complex expression of Kenyan coffee. Produced by more than 500 smallholder farmers and cultivated primarily with SL-28 and SL-34, the coffee is carefully processed at the Mahiga Wash Station, where cherries are kept separate by delivery to preserve and identify quality.

The cup opens with tart, juicy fruit and the rich sweetness of simmered berries, evoking cranberry sauce, black currant, dark grape, and raisin. Notes of brown sugar, turbinado, and subtle malty sweetness provide a warm, molasses-like foundation, while cardamom and mace add gentle spice.

Mahiga is traditionally washed, with the cherries depulped, fermented, thoroughly washed, and dried on raised beds. This careful process allows the coffee’s bright fruit, refined sweetness, tea-like aromatics, and lively acidity to shine.
